Industry reacts to Nuance’s planned acquisition of Equitrac

EquitracThe May 10th announcement by Nuance that they plan to acquire Equitrac has been very well received by the industry and I wanted to just share a couple of the viewpoints from the industry analyst community.

Infotrends responded early with a blog post in which they said: Combined with Equitrac and eCopy, Nuance has almost become a one-stop vendor for solution offerings for organizations.  Nuance is in a much more competitive position as the office technology industry shifts towards a more services-driven model and Equitrac’s Print Management solution boosts Nuance’s role in MPS adoption across organizations.”

In MPS Insights, the Photizo Group wrote that: “Nuance has called together quite a stable of different offerings over the past few years.”

Photizo also interviewed Nuance’s Chris Stramiello who noted that, “Not only does this acquisition create energy and opportunity right away, but it lays down a pathway for innovation that is going to continue to drive excitement.”

An often mentioned aspect of this announcement by the analysts is the potential impact that this deal could have on the Managed Print Services (MPS) space.  I think Ralph Gammon of the Document Imaging Report may have said it best in his blog, Document Imaging Talk, when he summarized his take on the acquisition with: “I think this makes sense and immediately entrenches Nuance as a player in the MPS market.”

As you can see, there is a lot of excitement about the opportunities that this acquisition will bring to customers, vendors and the industry as a whole, and we share that excitement. I’ll be sure to keep readers of the blog updated on news about the acquisition as it becomes available, and would love to hear your opinion on the news as well.
